Storage

What happens to my precious metal in storage in the event of death?

The precious metals in storage will remain safely stored. The storage account forms part of the estate, and Holland Gold will guide the heirs through the settlement process.

Once it is clear who is authorised to act on behalf of the heirs, the storage account can be transferred into the name of the authorised heir or heirs. It is also possible to sell the precious metals or have them delivered from storage.

When a loved one passes away, several matters need to be arranged. You can notify us of the death by phone or by e-mail as soon as you are able to do so. Once the death certificate is available, we would be grateful to receive a copy.

  • If the deceased held a storage account solely in his or her own name, we will temporarily block the account.
  • If the deceased had authorised someone on his or her storage account, this authorisation will expire.
  • If the deceased held a joint storage account, this account will remain available to the other account holder. Other authorised persons for this joint account will retain access.
  • If the deceased held a business storage account and/or was a co-owner of a company, we would like to know how the company will continue, whether it will cease trading or be transferred. Together, we will review the next steps for the storage account and the precious metals.

When the heirs proceed with the distribution of the estate, we would like to receive the certificate of inheritance. You can read more about this in our explanation of distributing an inheritance when precious metals form part of the assets.
