It is expected that 2012 will result in a record number of bankruptcies in the Netherlands, according to ABN Amro's economics department. Last year, 7140 companies officially went bankrupt, but ABN Amro expects an increase of 20% this year. This means that there will be more bankruptcies than in 2009, when a peak was also reached.
The economic crises have followed each other in rapid succession without showing a clear recovery in the meantime. As a result, cutbacks are often difficult to achieve, but the disappointing figures must be absorbed. This peak of bankruptcies is already visible in the construction sector. The consumer-oriented sectors will be affected by the planned VAT increase.
