On Thursday morning, two employees of Umicore in Olen, Belgium, were killed while working on a silo. It is not yet clear what the exact circumstances of the accident will be. An investigation has now been launched. Umicore has brought out that there has never been any danger to the environment. The victims are two maintenance workers who were working in a silo, according to Raf Hendrickx, Communications Manager of Umicore Olen.
Director Jan Vliegen indicates that no fire started and there was no danger to other employees or local residents.
The production department has been shut down and an investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the accident.
In Olen, Umicore mainly produces products based on cobalt and nickel. More than a thousand people work in the factory.
