A 1 gram gold bar is one of the smallest common sizes for buying physical investment gold. Its relatively low purchase price makes it suitable as a first introduction to gold, a gift or a way to build your gold holdings in small steps.
Holland Gold sells individual 1 gram bars from Umicore and C. Hafner. We also offer the C. Hafner SmartPack and divisible Valcambi CombiBars, allowing you to buy several 1 gram bars at once. These producers are on the LBMA Good Delivery List and meet strict quality requirements. See our current range of gold bars for versions, availability and prices.
A 1 gram gold bar contains 1 gram of fine gold with a purity of 999.9/1000, or 99.99% gold. It is among the smallest bar sizes made by internationally recognized refineries.
Despite its low weight, a 1 gram bar has the same key product markings as larger bars. These include weight, purity and the producer's logo. The bars come in sturdy, sealed hard-plastic packaging that also serves as the certificate.
Holland Gold offers the Umicore and C. Hafner 1 gram gold bars, among others. Umicore is a well-known Belgian precious metals producer, while C. Hafner is German. Both are LBMA-accredited refineries and internationally recognized in the gold market.
Besides individual 1 gram bars, there are products that let you buy several small bars together and later sell or give them away separately.
A Valcambi CombiBar consists of several connected 1 gram bars with break lines. You can separate the segments without losing gold. Holland Gold offers Valcambi CombiBars in 5 x 1, 10 x 1 and 50 x 1 gram sizes, among others.
An alternative is the C. Hafner SmartPack, containing ten individually packaged 1 gram bars. Tear lines in the packaging let you separate them easily. Each bar has its own unique serial number.
Both versions provide flexibility when selling or giving away small amounts of gold. Their premium per gram is also generally lower than buying the same number of individual bars. If you want just 1 gram, a single bar is the most practical choice.
Umicore and C. Hafner 1 gram gold bars are minted bars. Gold is first rolled into a thin sheet. Bars are then cut from it, carefully finished and marked with weight, purity and the refinery logo.
Modern manufacturing allows fine details even on a 1 gram bar. The C. Hafner bar is particularly known for its precise finish and detailed design. These features make convincing counterfeits harder to produce and help with authenticity checks.
The bars come in sealed hard-plastic packaging with an integrated certificate of authenticity. This protects both the bar and its product information and keeps them together.
A 1 gram bar is particularly suitable when you want a small amount of physical gold. You can buy a tangible gold bar from an internationally recognized refinery without spending a large amount at once.
This size is also popular as a gift. Its intrinsic gold value makes it an alternative to a traditional present. Protective packaging makes the bar easy to give or store.
Another benefit is flexibility when selling. If you own ten individual 1 gram bars, you can sell one and keep the other nine. You cannot readily sell a small portion of one larger bar.
However, the premium per gram is relatively high. Production, packaging and distribution costs weigh heavily on a 1 gram bar. You therefore pay more per gram than for larger bars.
If you want several grams of gold and a low premium matters most, a larger 5 or 10 gram bar can be considerably more economical.
The price of a 1 gram bar is its current gold value plus a product premium. Gold value follows the international spot price, while the premium covers costs such as production, packaging, transport and trading.
Selling prices vary by producer. Umicore and C. Hafner bars may cost different amounts even though both contain exactly 1 gram of fine gold. On resale, Holland Gold pays the same buyback price for bars from LBMA-accredited refineries with equal weight and purity, regardless of brand. Choosing the lowest-priced 1 gram bar from an LBMA-accredited refinery is therefore the most economical purchase.
Gold prices change constantly, so the selling price of a 1 gram bar is updated regularly. You can follow the current gold price on our gold price page. Current selling prices appear on individual product pages.
Want to sell your 1 gram bar later? Holland Gold buys back gold bars and offers a buyback guarantee for bars purchased from us. Bars originally bought from another dealer may also be sold to us.
The buyback price follows the current gold price and applicable purchase conditions. Bear in mind that the relatively high premium paid for a small bar is not automatically recovered when selling.
You can place a sell order on our website 24/7 and lock in the quoted buyback price immediately. You then transfer the bar according to the stated procedure. See our current buyback prices and how to sell your bar on the sell to us page.
An individual 1 gram bar has relatively high manufacturing and packaging costs. A precious metals account lets you buy gold at a lower premium, since your purchase is backed by larger gold bars. Want as much gold as possible for your money without holding it yourself? A precious metals account may be an attractive alternative.
Your gold is stored safely and fully insured in Switzerland, removing the risk of theft from your home. You can also buy gold from €10 and invest periodically through an automatic savings plan using dollar-cost averaging (DCA).
As its name indicates, a 1 gram bar contains exactly 1 gram of fine gold. Gold's high density makes it very small. The C. Hafner 1 gram bar, for example, measures only 15 × 8.5 × 0.7 mm. Its protective packaging is much larger than the bar. Despite its size, it has the same 999.9/1000 purity as larger investment bars from the producer.
Holland Gold sells individual 1 gram bars from Umicore and C. Hafner. Both are LBMA-accredited and produce bars with 999.9/1000 purity. We also offer the C. Hafner SmartPack and divisible CombiBars from Swiss refiner Valcambi, allowing multiple 1 gram bars in one purchase. Versions differ in design, packaging and price. Availability depends on stock.
Holland Gold sells only bars from LBMA-accredited refineries such as Umicore and C. Hafner. They come in sealed packaging with an integrated authenticity certificate showing weight, purity and producer. The package cannot be opened without visible damage. The C. Hafner 1 gram bar has a particularly detailed finish, making it harder to copy. A recognized refinery, original packaging and certificate provide added assurance about the origin of your gold.

Yes. A 1 gram bar with a purity of 999.9/1000 meets the statutory conditions for investment gold and is exempt from VAT in the Netherlands. No VAT is charged on a qualifying bar.
