Compared to other countries, the Netherlands owns a lot of gold. Our country is in eleventh place in terms of weight. The United States ranks first in the top ten gold-owning countries.
If you look at the value of that gold per capita, Switzerland is at the top. Switzerland is number 8 in terms of weight in the list of countries, but the country owns €6,855 in gold per Swiss inhabitant. For every Dutch person, the state has just under €2,000. Despite China being number 7 in the top ten by weight, the average Chinese's gold is only worth €88.
These figures are presented by the World Gold Council. Please note that not all countries, such as China, are equally upfront about their gold holdings. Some figures may therefore differ slightly.
