Edgar Wortmann (Our Money) calls for controlled bank runs, de-edebts and digital government money

In this episode, Paul Buitink talks to Edgar Wortmann. Edgar is a corporate lawyer specialising in financial and property law and the rhetorical brain of the "Ons Geld" foundation. The Our Money Foundation strives for monetary reform leading to a socially responsible and serving money system, as well as the development and dissemination of knowledge about (alternatives to) the regulation of the monetary system.

In this conversation, Edgar explains the difference between the digital euro and public money as envisioned by Our Money. The first is a claim on the central bank and is introduced alongside commercial bank money. The second would have to be issued debt-free by a new government body, with banks losing the right to create debt money. The transition from the existing system to a new financial system could be done through a 'soft landing', according to Edgar. This would begin with a controlled bank run, coordinated by the central bank, to exonerate our financial system. In addition, the government will then issue new digital money. According to Edgar, private initiatives, such as Bitcoin, should also be given every chance in order to provide society with sufficient liquidity. Finally, the gentlemen will elaborate on the latest developments regarding the digital euro and the role of central and commercial banks in its implementation.
