China acquires stake in Maltese energy supply

Electric Power, the Chinese energy company, has taken a 33 percent stake in Enemalta. Enemalte is the energy company that supplies Malta's entire energy supply.

It is worth 320 million euros. With this stake, Electric Power will also invest in the conversion of the power plant in Malta. At the moment, this plant still burns oil, but will switch to gas after the renovation. In addition, part of the agreements is that investments will be made in sustainable energy in Europe and Asia.

The Maltese government still holds a majority stake in Enemalta. The Chinese company Electric Power is part of the Chinese state-owned China Power Investment Corporation and is a major energy supplier in the Shanghai region.
