Paul Buitink talks to André ten Dam about the exchange rate loss that the Netherlands suffered when the euro was introduced. André read an article in the newspaper in 2005 in which it was stated that the then DNB director Henk Brouwer had said that the guilder had been exchanged for the euro too cheaply. He was upset about the associated loss of purchasing power of the Netherlands (which he would later calculate at hundreds of billions). He has started researching this subject himself, has published about it and has even prepared legal action. He then experienced first-hand how difficult it is to initiate a substantive debate on this subject.
After the outbreak of the euro crisis around 2009, André started to focus on a solution to the problems surrounding the euro. He developed the Matheo Solution (named after his son) with the idea of preserving the advantages of the euro and eliminating the disadvantages. A substantive and extensive interview in which André takes the viewer through his experiences during his research and efforts to draw attention to the problem of exchange rate loss.
