Do I pay VAT on the purchase of palladium?

Yes, on new palladium coins and palladium bars you pay 21% VAT on the full purchase price. Coins from various years can be offered under the VAT margin scheme, so no 21% VAT is calculated on the full purchase price. Buying palladium without 21% VAT is possible if you choose storage in a bonded warehouse in Switzerland.

Buying palladium without 21% VAT on the full purchase price

Via the precious metals account, you can buy physical palladium per gram. The palladium is stored safely and insured in a bonded warehouse in Switzerland. As long as the palladium remains stored there, you pay no Dutch VAT when buying or selling it.

You are not tied to the weight of a full palladium bar and can decide for yourself the amount for which you buy palladium. Download the Holland Gold app or create an account via our website and easily buy palladium via the precious metals account.

We occasionally buy back palladium coins from customers. These can be offered under the margin scheme, so no 21% VAT is calculated on the full purchase price.

We do not offer palladium bars. If you want to invest in palladium, the precious metals account is therefore the most accessible option.

Different VAT rules apply to other precious metals. Investment gold is exempt from VAT, while silver and platinum are subject to rules comparable to those for palladium.
