10 Dollar American Eagle Indian Head

The sculptor Augustus Siant-Gaudens designed the Indian Head coin. The $10 St. Gaudens coin is also known as the 'Golden Eagle'. The coin has a face value of 10 dollars, a purity of 90% and a net gold content of 0.4839 troy ounces. The coins were minted from 1907 to 1933.

General information

The United States Indian Head $10 coin was created because President Roosevelt did not like the existing gold coins in America. That is why he commissioned Augustus Siant-Gaudens to design a new coin. The sculptor then had two different designs made: the 'Double Eagle' and the 'Indian Head'. The $10 St. Gaudens is also known as the 'Golden Eagle'. The coin has a face value of 10 dollars, a purity of 90% and a net gold content of 0.4839 troy ounces. The coins were minted from 1907 to 1933.

Design

The coins from before 1908 (and some examples minted in this year) do not have an ''In God We Trust'' motto on the left reverse. The coins that were minted afterwards do have this. Thus, these coins are relatively rare.

The obverse features a permanent eagle on a bunch of arrows, to the left of it the eagle has an olive branch in its talons. Above the bird are the words: ''Unites States Of America''. To the right of the eagle are the words: ''e pluribus unum'', these words in Latin mean: ''one out of many''. Underneath the bird, the face value of the coin ''10 dollars'' is visible.

The reverse features the head of an Indian, the man wears a headdress to the left. The headdress features the word ''Liberty''. On the same side is also the year in which the coin was minted. According to various sources, the thirteen stars surrounding the Indian represent the thirteen colonies of the United States.

Coin Condition

The coins are circulated, meaning that the coins have been in circulation. The coins have been manually checked by our precious metals experts. They have been checked for the weight, purity, and condition of the coin. The coins we sell meet the sales requirements (G). However, it is important to realize that the coins have been in circulation and therefore do not meet the highest standard ('mint' condition).

Why buy gold at Holland Gold?

Gold offers protection in times of inflation
Gold offers protection in times of inflation
In the long term, gold retains its value, while currencies lose a lot of purchasing power. An example of the value retention of gold is that 2,000 years ago you could buy a tailor-made suit for one gold coin and that is still the case today.

The gold reserves at central banks act as the backing of a money system. According to DNB, gold is an 'anchor of trust': "If the entire financial system collapses, the gold supply provides collateral to start over."
Gold is a mainstay in the investment portfolio

Gold strengthens the portfolio through its long-term returns and diversification. Its traditional role as a safe haven means that gold is an asset in times of crisis, moving in the opposite direction to the rest of the portfolio.
