Derk Jan Eppink (JA21) on unsustainable euro, opt-outs vs Nexit, contingency plan, elections and NATO

In this episode, Paul Buitink talks to Derk Jan Eppink, Member of Parliament for JA21, who has requested a debate on the sustainability of the euro with independent MP Pieter Omtzigt. This debate will be held on 9 March 2023. Derk Jan explains why he has requested this debate and why he thinks the euro is unsustainable. The euro only leads to imbalances and is not good for most Dutch people, according to Derk Jan.

He also discusses what the strategy should be for the Netherlands to eventually leave the euro. There is currently no majority for this in the House of Representatives. Step 1 should be to stop agreeing to new emergency funds. Derk Jan says that it is important that we as a country at least think about the long term and prepare. He also discusses reform initiatives such as André ten Dam's Matheo Solution and talks about the emergency scenarios that have been ready since the euro crisis in 2010. Derk, Jan and Paul also discuss Dutch and European defence and the role of NATO. The sabotage on Nordstream is discussed, as well as the war in Ukraine.
