A 2 gram gold bar is among the smallest sizes of physical investment gold. Its low weight makes it accessible to buyers with a relatively limited budget. It can therefore suit a first purchase, a small addition to existing gold holdings or a tangible gift.
Holland Gold's 2 gram gold bars come from LBMA-accredited refineries, listed under the industry's Good Delivery standard, which meet strict international quality requirements. See our full range of gold bars for current stock and prices.
A 2 gram gold bar may suit you if you want to own physical gold without spending a larger amount at once. You can build your holdings in small units and later choose how much to sell or give away.
However, small gold bars have relatively high production costs. Making and packaging a 2 gram bar does not cost a refinery proportionately less than a larger bar. The premium per gram is therefore generally higher than for 5 or 10 gram bars.
If you have a larger budget and a low price per gram matters most, a larger bar may be better value.
The C. Hafner 2 gram gold bar is a minted bar. Gold is first rolled into a sheet. Individual bars are then cut from the sheet and brought precisely to the required weight.
The bar is then finished and marked with details including its weight, purity and the C. Hafner logo. It is placed in protective packaging containing the relevant product details.
At 2 grams, gold bars are almost exclusively minted. To learn about both production methods, read our FAQ on the difference between a minted and a cast gold bar.
A 2 gram bar sits between a single 1 gram bar and small bars weighing 2.5 or 5 grams. It contains twice as much gold as a 1 gram bar, while the purchase amount remains relatively modest.
Besides small bars, you can choose gold bullion coins. A 1/10 troy ounce coin, for example, contains 3.11 grams of fine gold. The gold ducat, with about 3.43 grams of fine gold, and the Dutch ten-guilder gold coin, with 6.048 grams, are also alternatives.
Want to buy small quantities of gold at a low premium? The precious metals account may be an alternative. It lets you buy physical gold from €10 without choosing a fixed weight. Your gold is fully insured and stored in Switzerland, backed by larger bars from LBMA-accredited refineries.
Your choice mainly depends on your budget and whether you want to hold the gold yourself. Compare the premium per gram and additional costs to see which option fits your needs.
The price of a 2 gram gold bar consists of the current value of 2 grams of gold plus a premium. This includes production, packaging and trading costs. These costs weigh more heavily on small bars, making the price per gram higher than for larger sizes.
Holland Gold currently sells only the C. Hafner bar in the 2 gram size. So there is no need to compare producers within this weight. To assess whether 2 grams suits you, compare its price per gram with 1, 5 or 10 gram bars.
The gold price changes during the trading day, and the bar's selling price moves with it. You can follow this on our current gold price page.
Want to sell your 2 gram gold bar later? On our sell to us page, you can check the current buyback price and place a sell order 24/7, locking in the quoted price immediately.
Holland Gold provides a buyback guarantee for bars bought from us. In many cases, we also buy bars originally purchased from other dealers.
A 2 gram gold bar is very compact and takes up little space. Exact dimensions depend on the refiner and version. For a minted bar this small, the protective packaging is much larger than the bar itself. It makes the product easier to handle and protects the bar from damage. A 2 gram bar is also easy to store in a safe.
Holland Gold currently sells the C. Hafner 2 gram gold bar. C. Hafner is a German refinery recognized internationally in the gold market. The bar contains 2 grams of gold with a purity of 999.9. Other refineries also make small bars, but C. Hafner is currently our supplier for this specific weight.
Protective packaging helps prevent damage to the small bar and keeps the product information with it. The packaging shows details such as weight, purity and producer. It is also easier to hold than the bar itself. We therefore recommend keeping the original packaging intact and not removing the bar unnecessarily.
An important indication is the bar's origin. C. Hafner is an internationally recognized, LBMA-accredited refinery that meets strict quality requirements. The bar also comes in its original packaging with product details. Buying from a specialist dealer and keeping the packaging intact helps document its origin and characteristics.
Yes. Holland Gold can deliver a 2 gram gold bar safely, discreetly and with insurance. Your order is insured in transit and delivered using an appropriate shipping method. Collection may also be possible, depending on availability. Even at this small weight, safe delivery requires the same care as larger purchases of physical gold.
A 2 gram gold bar may count toward your assets in box 3, the Dutch tax on assets. You pay no VAT when buying investment gold, but different rules may apply to physical gold you hold when filing your tax return. As tax rules can change, see our FAQ on tax returns, regulations and VAT for current information from the Dutch Tax Administration (Belastingdienst).
