The Austrian Mint is renowned worldwide for its exceptional production quality and purity. The obverse of the Gold Philharmoniker displays its gold purity (999.9), weight (1/2 troy ounce), the face value of 50 euros (pre-2002: 1000 schilling), and the famous organ of the Vienna Musikverein, along with the inscription “Republik Österreich”.

The reverse features the inscription “Wiener Philharmoniker” and an arrangement of classical instruments: a Viennese horn, double bass, harp, cello and four violins. The timeless design by Thomas Pesendorfer has remained unchanged since the series debuted in 1989 and has been used for the 1/2 troy ounce coin since 1994. Unlike the silver version, the gold coin has a reeded edge.
