Design of the Lunar 2027 1/2 troy ounce gold coin

The Perth Mint launched its first Lunar coin series in 1996, inspired by the Chinese lunar calendar. The third Lunar series began in 2020 and reaches the Year of the Goat in 2027. The coin is struck in 999.9/1000 fine gold without added metals, giving it the deep yellow colour associated with pure gold. Because 24-carat gold is relatively soft, the surface is also more sensitive to scratches. The reeded edge and protective capsule help protect the coin. It measures 25.60 mm in diameter and 2.50 mm in thickness.

The reverse, designed by Wade Robinson, depicts a goat standing on a mountainous landscape with rugged terrain and a single tree in the distance. It also features the Chinese character for goat, the inscription GOAT 2027 and The Perth Mint's P mintmark. A micro-engraved letter, visible only under magnification, serves as an additional security feature.
