Design of the Lunar 2027 1/10 troy ounce gold coin

The Perth Mint has issued Lunar coins since 1996. The 2027 edition, celebrating the Year of the Goat, is part of the third Lunar series that began in 2020. The coin is made from 999.9/1000 fine gold without added metals, giving it its warm gold colour while also making the surface relatively prone to scratching. It is therefore supplied in a hard plastic capsule. The coin measures 16.60 mm in diameter and 1.80 mm in thickness.

The obverse features Dan Thorne's portrait of King Charles III, together with the face value of 15 Australian dollars. Wade Robinson designed the reverse, showing a goat on a mountain landscape with rugged terrain and a single tree in the distance. The design also includes the Chinese character for goat, the inscription GOAT 2027 and The Perth Mint's P mint mark. A micro-engraved letter, visible only under magnification, serves as a security feature.
