Design — 1/10 troy ounce American Eagle gold coin

The American Eagle 1/10 troy ounce gold coin has a fineness of 916.7 (22 karats) and contains 3.11 grams of fine gold. The alloy consists of 91.67% gold, 3% silver and 5.33% copper, giving the coin a warm reddish tone and improved durability.

The obverse features “Lady Liberty” holding a torch in her right hand (freedom) and an olive branch in her left hand (peace). The year of issue is also displayed. The design is based on the historic Saint-Gaudens coins.

The reverse traditionally shows a bald eagle flying toward its nest, designed by Miley Busiek. Since 2021, however, the coin features a redesigned reverse: a close-up portrait of an eagle created by Jennie Norris. Lady Liberty remains on the obverse in a refined version. Both designs display the weight (1/10 troy ounce) and the face value of 5 dollars. The coin is legal tender in the United States.
