55. Where is the Netherlands in the top 10 of gold countries?

Compared to other countries, the Netherlands owns a lot of gold. Our country ranks tenth in terms of weight. The United States ranks first in the top ten gold-owning countries.

If you look at the value of that gold per capita, Switzerland is  at the top. Switzerland is number 7 in terms of weight in the list of countries, but an average Swiss person owns more than $6,500 worth of gold. For a Dutchman, that's just under $2,000. While China is number 6 in the top ten by weight, the average Chinese's gold is worth only $39.

These figures are presented by the World Gold Council. Keep in mind that not all countries, including China, are not so upfront about their gold holdings. Some figures may therefore differ slightly.
