23. How is the price of gold determined?

The price of gold is established on the futures market, where traders trade contracts gold. In addition to the futures market, which displays an up-to-date gold price 24 hours a day from Monday to Friday, a reference price for gold is set twice a day. This is also known as fixing. This has been done for a long time by a small group of gold banks that met every day to pass on the number of buy and sell orders at a proposed gold price. You can read more about this in the chapter of the daily fixing for gold.
