Maple Leaf 1 troy ounce platinum coin

The Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf is the official platinum investment coin of Canada. Published by the Royal Canadian Mint since 1988 with an exceptionally high purity of 999.5 platinum. This coin is tradable worldwide and contains exactly one troy ounce of pure platinum. The platinum Maple Leaf coins that are supplied are of various years.

Platinum Maple Leaf specifications

The Canadian platinum Maple Leaf coin weighs 1 troy ounce (31.1035 grams) and has a purity of 999.5 / 1000 platinum. The platinum Maple leaf has a face value of 50 dollars, a diameter of 30 mm and is 2.62 mm thick. The platinum coin is minted by the Royal Canadian Mint.

Quality

The Royal Canadian Mint uses the latest technologies, excellent quality controls, and best-in-class auditing. Because of all these quality standards, even the Canadian government guarantees that the Maple Leaf coins of the Royal Canadian Mint meet the correct weight and purity.

Design

Thanks to its internationally recognized Maple Leaf design, this platinum coin is easy to trade. The obverse of this silver coin features the portrait of Elizabeth II and her name. This is the Queen of the United Kingdom, Canada, two other countries, and the twelve Commonwealth Realms. Also, on the obverse, it is stated the face value of 50 dollars and the year in which the coin was minted.

The reverse of the coin reads: Canada, the purity of 99.95% and the weight of 1 troy ounce of pure platinum. In addition, there are the words: "Fine Platinum / Platinum Pur", which means fine platinum in English and French. Fine platinum is deliberately listed in two languages on the coin due to Canada's bilingualism. There is also a maple leaf on the back, the so-called Maple Leaf. This has been the Canadian symbol since 1700 and represents the representation of Canadian nature. The 11 points that can be found in the magazine have no official significance. But some believe the points refer to the ten provinces and the federal government.

History

In 1988, the first platinum Maple Leaf coin was introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint. Because of the aesthetics that came with the coin, the purity and the RCM expertise, the coin was an instant success. Immediately after this platinum Maple Leaf coin, the variants 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 were also released with various denominations. The 1/20 oz variant was only released in the period from 1993 to 1999. In the years from 2003 to 2009, no platinum Maple Leaf coins were minted. After this period, the coin was reintroduced and is still a common choice of individuals when it comes to platinum.

Why buy platinum at Holland Gold?

Platinum is a scarce resource
Platinum is a scarce resource

All the mined platinum will hardly fill an average living room. Due to this scarcity, prices are more volatile and less attractive to casual investors. If you have high expectations specifically for platinum, it is interesting to buy this metal.

Platinum is used by the automotive industry to make catalytic converters. Platinum is also used in jewelry. Many analysts believe that platinum can gradually replace the cheaper  palladium due to its lower cost and ability to play much the same role as palladium.

Research shows that platinum retains its economic value over time and is therefore a wise investment. Thanks to its industrial value, platinum offers admirable resistance to declines in the precious metals market.
