The Lunar 2008 silver coin, 'Year of the Mouse' edition, is 1 kilogram of pure silver with a purity of 99.9%. This silver investment coin of the Perth Mint has a pair of rats as an imprint and the Chinese character for the "rat". This large kilo coin comes in a plastic capsule, which keeps the coin in good condition.

The year 2008 is the year of the rat in the Chinese era. The unique design of the Lunar is changed annually. The Chinese rat is not the only mythical creature in the Chinese zodiac, every year there is a different one.

The Chinese year of the rat is: 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996 and 2008
