New gold mine in Orange, USA

The company Regis Resources wants to place a gold mine near Orange, USA. The project called McPhillamys, if it gets off the ground, will provide at least 150 jobs for the residents of Orange and even 500 jobs for expatriates.

The water supply is still a problem at the moment. There must be sufficient supply for the production of the new mine, which will be located 35 kilometres south-east of Orange. Regis is in the process of gathering enough data on the water supply so that the environmental impact report is completed before the end of this year and sent to the planning department for approval.

McPhillamys' project manager, Rod Smith, said last week that construction could start in 2015 if the $150 million project is approved.

"We've had a lot of new hires at Western Australia, and we're planning to do the same at McPhillamys. At the moment there are reserves worth 10 years, but there is no regional coverage and therefore a lot of potential for us.'

The construction phase of the project will employ around 200 people.  Regis currently employs 550 people across its mines in Western Australia and Queensland.
