Chinese farmer finds gold nugget of almost 8 kilos

A Chinese farmer has found a lump of gold weighing almost eight kilos in the far west of China. The farmer told Xinhua that the piece of gold was almost on the earth's surface. The object is 23 centimeters long, 18 centimeters long and was 8 centimeters thick at its thickest point. Analysis revealed that the object weighed 7.85 kilograms, of which an estimated 80% is pure gold.

The melting value of the gold nugget is estimated at 1.6 million Chinese yuan, converted to euros that is an amount of €220,750. However, according to a local gold dealer, the lump of gold can yield much more, because it is very rare that such large pieces of gold are found. According to him, the gold nugget of almost eight kilos can yield a multiple of the intrinsic gold value.

The discovery was made in the Altay Mountains, which border Central Asia. The word Altay means gold in Mongolian. It is an area with a very ethnically diverse population.

Australia

Two years ago, a large lump of gold was also found in Australia. It had a weight of 5.5 kilos and had a weight of 5.5 kilos Gold price At that time, it also had a melting value of around €220,000. The finder was a gold miner who had been searching for gold with a professional metal detector for years. He found the Y-shaped nugget at a depth of sixty centimeters.

Gold nuggets of this size are not often found anymore. Yet, much larger blocks of solid gold have been found further back in history. The largest discovery ever is a 68-kilogram lump of gold found in 1858 by a group of prospectors in Australia. At the time, this large block of gold was sold to the London Mint for the production of gold coins. Fortunately, models were made of the block, so replicas could also be made.

The largest gold nugget that remains completely intact to this day was found in 1980 by a prospector in Australia. About 30 centimetres underground, he found a lump of gold weighing 27.2 kilograms, which he later sold to a casino in Nevada. At the time, the revenue was more than $1 million. More than ten years later and with a much higher gold price, this gold nugget is already worth at least $1.5 million for gold. The collector's value is probably a multiple of that.
