From the year 1716 onwards, double gold ducats were also minted. These are actually exact copies of the single ducats, with the difference that the double ducats contain twice as much gold. The diameter is 26 mm and the medal has a weight of 6,988 grams. The content, like the single ducat, is 23.7 carats (986/1000). A double ducat contains more than 6.869 grams of fine gold. The medals, like the single ducats, are traded for their gold value. The prices of gold ducats (both single and double) are interesting coins as investment coins as they are sold close to the gold price.
The obverse of the ducat depicts a standing knight with a sword and a bunch of arrows in his hand. The text on this front is: Parvae Crescunt Concordia Res and the year of the ducat. On the back is a decorated square with the text in a square: MO. AUR. REG. BELGIUM AD LEGEM IMPERII. Millions of ducats have been minted. The 'gold ducate' has a varying edition, which means that some years with a low edition are very popular with collectors.
