Maple Leaf 1 troy ounce silver coin - various years

With the Silver Maple Leaf various years, you invest in one of the world’s most trusted and best-known silver bullion coins. This 1 troy ounce (31.1 grams) coin from the Royal Canadian Mint features Canada’s national symbol — the maple leaf — and represents exceptional quality and craftsmanship.

Struck from 99.99% pure silver, the Silver Maple Leaf has been issued annually since 1988 by the Royal Canadian Mint. It carries a nominal face value of 5 Canadian dollars but, as with all bullion coins, its market value is determined by the silver price. Thanks to its purity, recognizability and liquidity, the Maple Leaf is among the most popular silver coins sold by Holland Gold.

The various years coins are sourced through the secondary market and are typically priced more attractively than the newest Maple Leaf (2025) issues that come directly from the mint. From an investment standpoint, these coins are particularly appealing since all 1 troy ounce Silver Maple Leafs — regardless of their year — have the same buyback value.

These coins are also exempt from 21% VAT. Having previously been in circulation and carefully sourced from private and institutional sellers, they are available at a more favorable price. This makes the Silver Maple Leaf an internationally recognized coin that combines quality with excellent value.

Design

The Silver Maple Leaf showcases exceptional craftsmanship and security features. The obverse displays the official effigy of Queen Elizabeth II (1988–2023) or King Charles III (2024–present), along with the year of issue and a face value of 5 Canadian dollars. The reverse features the iconic maple leaf, Canada’s national symbol, with the inscriptions “9999 FINE SILVER 1 OZ”.

The design, created by Walter Ott, has remained largely unchanged since its debut in 1988. Over the years, the coin has been enhanced with advanced anti-counterfeiting features. Since 2014, each Maple Leaf includes precision radial lines and a micro-engraved privy mark, ensuring authenticity and security.
