2 Rand South Africa

The 2 Rand South Africa coin was minted from 1961 to 1983 by the South African government. The coin is minted in 7.98 grams of gold with a fineness of 0.916/1000, or 22 carats. The gold 2 Rand coin is both a popular investment coin and a popular collector's coin. The 2 rand gold coin has an international reputation and is considered legal tender. This coin may contain signs of wear and, depending on the stock, is supplied in various years.

The obverse of the golden 2 border South Africa shows an image of Jan van Riebeeck, who founded the first Dutch settlements in Africa and was also the founder of Cape Town. On the obverse of the coin was also the text 'Eendrag MAAK MAG', which in Afrikaans means 'Unity is strength'. The reverse of the coin depicts a springbok with the text '2R' (stands for 2 Rand), 'SUID-AFRIKA' and the year in which the coin was minted. The design of the 2 Rand gold coin was designed by Coert Steynbergs and is the same as the design of the 1 Rand coin.

In the long term, gold retains its value, while currencies lose a lot of purchasing power. An example of the value retention of gold is that 2,000 years ago you could buy a tailor-made suit for one gold coin and that is still the case today.
