10 Francs Switzerland

The Swiss 10 franc gold coin is the smaller counterpart of the well-known 20 franc and meets the same high standards. The coin is composed of 90% gold (21.6 carat) and contains 2.90 grams of pure gold, with a total weight of 3.23 grams. This coin is often chosen because of the strong reputation of the Swiss 20 franc gold coin combined with its attractive low weight.

Unlike the 20 franc, which exists in two different designs, the Swiss 10 franc was issued exclusively as the Vreneli type, struck between 1911 and 1922. This relatively short production period of just ten years makes the coin scarcer than many other gold coins from the same era.

Why choose the Swiss 10 Franc

  • 21.6 carat gold (90% purity)
  • Highly valued worldwide
  • Classic and historic design
  • Swiss reliability

Design

The Swiss 10 franc gold coin was issued, like the 20 franc, under the standards of the Latin Monetary Union and follows the same technical specifications in halved form. The only official issue is the Vreneli (1911–1922), designed by Fritz Landry. The obverse features the same classic portrait found on the 20 franc: a young woman with braided hair set against an Alpine landscape, with the country name HELVETIA at the top.

The reverse of the 10 franc differs from that of the 20 franc. While the larger denomination displays a prominent Swiss shield within an ornate wreath, the 10 franc features a lighter, vertically structured design. At the top is a small Swiss cross with radiant lines, below it the denomination 10 FR, followed by the year of issue and edelweiss flowers at the bottom.

Like the 20 franc, the coin is composed of 90% gold and has a total weight of 3.23 grams, containing 2.90 grams of pure gold, and a diameter of 19 mm.

Why buy gold at Holland Gold?

Gold offers protection in times of inflation
Gold offers protection in times of inflation
In the long term, gold retains its value, while currencies lose a lot of purchasing power. An example of the value retention of gold is that 2,000 years ago you could buy a tailor-made suit for one gold coin and that is still the case today.

The gold reserves at central banks act as the backing of a money system. According to DNB, gold is an 'anchor of trust': "If the entire financial system collapses, the gold supply provides collateral to start over."

Gold strengthens the portfolio through its long-term returns and diversification. Its traditional role as a safe haven means that gold is an asset in times of crisis, moving in the opposite direction to the rest of the portfolio.
