Design of the Lunar 2027 2 troy ounce gold coin

The Perth Mint introduced its first coin based on the Chinese lunar calendar in 1996. The third Lunar series began in 2020 and reaches the Year of the Goat in 2027. The coin is made from 999.9/1000 fine gold without added metals, giving it a warm yellow colour while also making the surface relatively prone to scratching. It is therefore supplied in a protective plastic capsule. With a diameter of 40.90 mm and a thickness of 3.80 mm, this is the largest coin in the range offered by Holland Gold.

The obverse features Dan Thorne's portrait of King Charles III, together with the face value of 200 Australian dollars. Wade Robinson designed the reverse, showing a goat on a mountain landscape with rugged terrain and a single tree in the distance. The design also includes the Chinese character for goat, the inscription GOAT 2027 and The Perth Mint's P mint mark. A micro-engraved letter, visible only under magnification, serves as an additional security feature.
