Holland Gold and its parent company Aunexum Precious Metals Group are leading the way when it comes to making the precious metals sector – the entire chain – more sustainable.
Aunexum and its companies work exclusively with precious metals from responsible sources: companies and countries that respect human rights, the environment and biodiversity when extracting precious metals. In small foreign gold mines, workers often work under poor working conditions. Large mines sometimes cause environmental problems. Toxic chemicals are sometimes used in the mining of gold. These have a negative impact on the environment. In some countries, the operation of large mines is associated with social problems such as child labour and corruption. Also, the production of gold sometimes provides money for the financing of violent conflicts in some countries. Aunexum excludes from the foregoing risks.
Aunexum and her company BGP Edelmetaal collect scrap gold, such as old rings and necklaces, from about one hundred and fifty jewellers. This scrap gold is processed by sister company Elephant Refinery, which refines 'demolition' into raw materials such as gold and silver. Elephant Refinery also recycles old electronics (such as printed circuit boards) and dental gold, which often contains various other rare raw materials in addition to gold and silver.
