Design

The Gold Maple Leaf coin represents exceptional craftsmanship, security and refined design. The obverse features the official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (1993–2023) or King Charles III (2024–present), along with the year of issue and a face value of 1 Canadian dollar. Over the years, four different portraits of Queen Elizabeth II have appeared on the coin. The reverse, designed by Walter Ott, depicts the iconic maple leaf – the national symbol of Canada – together with the weight and purity: “9999 FINE GOLD / OR PUR”. This side of the coin has remained virtually unchanged since its introduction.
