The 1/2 troy ounce gold Britannia coin is issued by the Royal Mint of the United Kingdom. The gold Britannia coin is minted in a half troy ounce of pure gold (15.55 grams) with a face value of £50 and with a purity of .9999 (99.99% gold). Please note that this concerns coins of various years. 

On the obverse of the coin the image of Lady Britannia is depicted, its design is by the hand of Philip Nathan. Surrounding this image is the text ''Brittania'' year' 1/2oz Fine Gold. Lady Britannia is the symbol of the United Kingdom for over two millennia. The first depictions of Britannia dating back to the Roman coins. On the reverse of the coin is an image of Queen Elizabeth II with the text ''Elizabeth II DG REG FD DEF 50 Pounds''. In recent years her portrait has been replaced with that of King Charles III. The edge of the coin is ribbed without text.
