The 1 kilo silver Lunar 2013 coin is attractive to investors and collectors because of its limited mintage, high purity and undeniable beauty. The coin was issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 with a fine silver content of 99.9%. The coin comes in a protective PVC capsule.

The Lunar series

The Lunar Snake investment coin was minted by the Perth Mint in 2013, the year in which the Year of the Snake is celebrated. The snake is the sixth of the twelve animals in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The snake is a symbol of wisdom and is said to bring good luck and prosperity.

The Australian Lunar Proof coin series is inspired by Chinese astrology and the 12 Chinese zodiac signs. The 12-year-old series commemorates the Year of the Mouse (2008), the Ox (2009), the Tiger (2010), the Rabbit (2011), the Dragon (2012), the Snake (2013), the Horse (2014), the Rabbit (2015), the Monkey (2016), the Rooster (2017), the Dog (2018) and the Pig (2019). The first edition of the Lunar series was minted in the period 1996-2007. Since 2008, the Lunar series II has been in production.

The design: silver Lunar 2013 Snake

The design of the head of the coin 1 kilogram silver Lunar Snake can be considered a classic for most of the Australian silver coins, with the Ian Rank-Broadley design of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The face value and the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II', 'AUSTRALIA', the year '2013' and '999 SILVER' are also depicted on the obverse of this coin.

The reverse, as the name of this silver coin suggests, shows the motif of a Serpent. The snake is wrapped around the branch of a tree and is depicted with a distinctive pattern. Different branches are shown at the top and bottom. To the right of the snake, the Chinese character stands for snake and the "P" for the Australian Perth Mint. The imprint "Year of the Snake" is printed around the bottom of the coin.

This beautiful silver coin is a perfect gift for people born in the Year of the Serpent - 1905, 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001 and of course 2013. People born in these years are said to be charming, elegant, quiet, intelligent, witty, independent, sophisticated, careful, analytical, and intuitive.

Why buy gold at Holland Gold?

Gold offers protection in times of inflation
Gold offers protection in times of inflation
In the long term, gold retains its value, while currencies lose a lot of purchasing power. An example of the value retention of gold is that 2,000 years ago you could buy a tailor-made suit for one gold coin and that is still the case today.

The gold reserves at central banks act as the backing of a money system. According to DNB, gold is an 'anchor of trust': "If the entire financial system collapses, the gold supply provides collateral to start over."
Gold is a mainstay in the investment portfolio

Gold strengthens the portfolio through its long-term returns and diversification. Its traditional role as a safe haven means that gold is an asset in times of crisis, moving in the opposite direction to the rest of the portfolio.
