The Chinese central bank introduced the new 2016 series of gold and silver investment coins on October 28. What is special about these coins is that for the first time the weight is no longer based on a troy ounce, but on the metric system.

General information

The gold Panda coin is one of the series of panda coins issued by the People's Republic of China. The coin was first introduced in 1982. The design of the panda changes every year and is therefore interesting for collectors. The Panda coin is issued in different sizes and denominations.

Design

The obverse of the coin depicts the Temple of Heaven which is located in Beijing. In the Temple of Heaven, the emperors of the Ming Dynasty conduct ceremonies in which they acted as intermediaries between heaven and earth. During these rituals, sacrifices were made and the favor of the gods was sought for a good harvest. The religion that was practiced is called Daoism. Thanks to the mediating role, the emperors were seen as a legitimate leader. On this side are also the words: ''Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo'' in Mandarin. The year in which the coin was minted is also stated.

On the reverse is a portrait of the giant panda. This can be found on the coin in its natural habitat. The panda is found in parts of Asia and is endemic to parts of China. The Chinese call the giant panda: 大熊猫 (dà xiong mao), or big tomcat. On the same side is the weight of the coin ''30 grams'', the purity ''ag 999'' and the face value of 500 Yuan.

Why buy gold at Holland Gold?

Gold offers protection in times of inflation

In the long term, gold retains its value, while currencies lose a lot of purchasing power. An example of the value retention of gold is that 2,000 years ago you could buy a tailor-made suit for one gold coin and that is still the case today.

The gold reserves at central banks act as the backing of a money system. According to DNB, gold is an 'anchor of trust': "If the entire financial system collapses, the gold supply provides collateral to start over."
Gold is a mainstay in the investment portfolio

Gold strengthens the portfolio through its long-term returns and diversification. Its traditional role as a safe haven means that gold is an asset in times of crisis, moving in the opposite direction to the rest of the portfolio.
