General information

The gold Panda coin 2018 is one of the series of panda coins issued by the People's Republic of China. The coin was first introduced in 1982. The design of the panda changes every year and is therefore interesting for collectors. The Panda coin is issued in different sizes and denominations.

Design

The obverse of the coin depicts the Temple of Heaven which is located in Beijing. In the Temple of Heaven, the emperors of the Ming Dynasty conduct ceremonies in which they acted as intermediaries between heaven and earth. During these rituals, sacrifices were made and the favor of the gods was sought for a good harvest. The religion that was practiced is called Daoism. Thanks to the mediating role, the emperors were seen as a legitimate leader. On this side are also the words: ''Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo'' in Mandarin. The year in which the coin was minted is also ''2017''.

On the reverse is a portrait of the giant panda. This can be found on the coin in its natural habitat. The panda is found in parts of Asia and is endemic to parts of China. The Chinese call the giant panda: 大熊猫 (dà xiong mao), or big tomcat. On the same side is the weight of the coin ''30 grams'', the purity ''au 999'' and the face value of 500 Yuan.
